what colors are in this painting?
i'm trying to get better at watercolor painting
so i want to paint this picture
http://kevinbucklandart.com/SailBoat.gif
i'm pretty good at the painting, but i'm horrible at choosing the colors to use
can anyone tell me what colors i should use?
preferably these colors because i already have them:
paynes grey, charcoal gray, rose madder, alizarin crimson,
thalo red, cadmium red light hue, alizarin orange, indian red hue,
yellow ochre, cadmium yellow deep hue, cadmium yellow,
lemon yellow, cadmium yellow pale hue, sap green, thalo green,
magnesium green, thalo blue, ultramarine blue, prussian blue,
and cobalt violet.
For the grass in the background I would use possibly some thalo green, add a little payne's grey, and when trying for a darker hue or shading mix with a red. To create shadow, mix your main color with it's complement (green mixed with red), it really helps a lot! In the sky I would water your paint down pretty heavily for that soft, cloudy feel, and use purples and blues and maybe add in a little bit of a pinkish or tan color. What you really have to do though is experiment! Just practicing more and becoming familiar with your paints will help a lot! I would also try and use picture references rather than paintings that have already been created so that you can interpret the piece for yourself instead of trying to imitate someone else's work. Good luck and keep painting!
